About

The Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) serves as the automotive lift industry's primary safety organization, celebrating 75 years of dedication to lift safety since its establishment in 1945. Founded by nine U.S. car lift manufacturers, ALI promotes the safe design, construction, installation, inspection, and use of automotive lifts across North America. The organization operates as an ANSI-accredited standards developer and product certification body, maintaining strict impartiality and freedom from commercial bias. ALI sponsors several national automotive lift safety standards and administers two critical certification programs. The ALI Lift Certification Program is the only accredited program in North America to test and validate automotive lift models against ANSI/ALI ALCTV requirements, with certified lifts bearing the prestigious ALI Gold Label. The ALI Lift Inspector Certification Program, launched in 2012, independently tests and certifies lift inspectors as qualified to inspect any vehicle lift according to ANSI/ALI ALOIM standards. The institute currently certifies seven types of lifts including two-post lifts, multi-post runway lifts, parallelogram lifts, scissors lifts, in-ground lifts, mobile column lifts, and low/mid-rise lifts. ALI's headquarters in Cortland, New York features the ALI LiftLab, a unique research and training facility housing 12 operational lifts from various manufacturers. The organization represents 20 lift manufacturer members and approximately 300 associate member lift inspection companies, all united in advancing vehicle lift safety standards throughout the industry.
