About

AJAC (Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee) is a non-profit workforce development organization founded in 2008 that specializes in advanced manufacturing apprenticeship programs across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The organization serves approximately 400 apprentices annually through partnerships with nearly 300 manufacturing companies and 12 community colleges, providing registered apprenticeship training for 13 high-growth, in-demand occupations in the advanced manufacturing sector. AJAC operates three main program tracks: Adult Apprenticeship for current industry workers, Youth Apprenticeship for high school students, and the Manufacturing Academy apprenticeship preparation program. Their comprehensive training approach combines 93% on-the-job training at employer facilities with 7% college-accredited classroom instruction delivered by industry professionals. Programs range from 18-month entry-level tracks to advanced 4-5 year certifications, covering specializations including machining, CNC programming, maintenance, automation, and logistics. The organization serves diverse advanced manufacturing industries including aerospace and defense, automation and machinery, electronics, chemicals and plastics, medical devices, clean energy, food and beverage, transportation, wood and paper, and maritime manufacturing. AJAC's apprentices work full-time as paid employees while receiving mentorship and wage progressions, ultimately earning journey-level certificates through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries that enable them to work anywhere in the United States as master tradespeople.
